No. Kinvoy is designed for people with no legal background. Every task comes with plain-English guidance, links to official government resources, and clear explanations of why each step matters. For complex matters such as probate or inheritance tax, Kinvoy walks you through the process step by step.

How do I create my first estate?

After signing in, click 'Start a new estate' on your portal dashboard. You will be asked for the name of the deceased, their date of death, and your relationship to them. Kinvoy will then generate a personalised task list based on those details. The whole setup takes less than two minutes.

Can I manage more than one estate at the same time?

Yes. Your Kinvoy subscription allows you to manage multiple estates simultaneously. Each estate has its own separate dashboard, task list, document store, and deadline tracker.

Is there a free trial?

Yes. Every new account starts with a 7-day free trial so you can explore the portal and begin organising your estate before committing to a subscription. A valid payment method is required to start the trial — your card will not be charged until day 7. You can cancel at any time before then and pay nothing.

What tasks does Kinvoy help me with?

Kinvoy covers over 50 responsibilities across three phases: immediate actions (registering the death, arranging the funeral, securing the property), short-term tasks (applying for probate, notifying HMRC, closing bank accounts, notifying insurers and pension providers), and long-term duties (distributing the estate, finalising tax returns, selling or transferring property). Each task includes guidance and links to the relevant government services.

What is probate and does Kinvoy help with it?

Probate is the legal process of proving a will is valid and giving the executor authority to deal with the deceased's estate. What happens if there is no will (intestacy)?

Kinvoy automatically creates deadlines for time-sensitive tasks — for example, the 2-month creditor window that opens when you place a Gazette notice, or the 6-month deadline for paying inheritance tax. You can also add your own custom deadlines. The deadline tracker shows upcoming and overdue items clearly on your estate dashboard.

What is the Gazette notice and why is it important?

Placing a notice in The Gazette (the official public record) protects executors from personal liability for unknown debts. Once published, creditors have 2 months to come forward. After that window closes, it is generally safe to distribute the estate without risk of personal liability for claims you were unaware of. Kinvoy tracks this deadline automatically when you mark the Gazette task as complete.

What documents can I store in Kinvoy?

You can upload any document relevant to the estate: death certificates, the original will, grant of probate, bank statements, property deeds, insurance policies, HMRC correspondence, identity documents, and any other supporting evidence. Documents are organised by category and can be linked directly to specific tasks.

Is my document storage secure?

Yes. All documents are encrypted in transit (TLS 1.2+) and at rest using AES-256 encryption. Files are stored in a secure cloud environment with access controls that ensure only you and your invited collaborators can view them. Kinvoy does not share your documents with any third party.

Is there a file size limit for uploads?

Individual files can be up to 50 MB. There is no overall storage cap on your account for normal estate use. If you need to upload very large files (such as high-resolution property surveys), please contact our support team.

What file formats are supported?

Accepted Answer

Kinvoy accepts PDF, Word documents (DOC/DOCX), images (JPG, PNG, TIFF), and most common document formats. We recommend uploading documents as PDF where possible for the best compatibility.

Can I download my documents if I cancel my subscription?

Accepted Answer

Yes. Before your account is closed, you will have a 30-day window to download all of your uploaded documents. We will send you a reminder email when your subscription ends. After the 30-day period, documents are permanently deleted from our servers in accordance with our data retention policy.

How much does Kinvoy cost?

Kinvoy offers three monthly plans: Individual at £19.99/month (1 estate portal), Family at £29.99/month (up to 3 estate portals with collaboration tools), and Professional at £99.99/month (unlimited portals for solicitors and estate administrators). All plans start with a free 7-day trial. All prices include VAT.

How do I cancel my subscription?

You can cancel at any time from your Account Settings page inside the portal. Your access will continue until the end of your current billing period — we do not offer pro-rata refunds for partial months, but you will never be charged again after cancelling. Under the Consumer Contracts Regulations 2013, you also have a 14-day cooling-off period from the date of purchase.

Can I get a refund?

If you cancel within 14 days of your initial purchase and have not yet used the service, you are entitled to a full refund under the Consumer Contracts Regulations 2013. For other refund requests, please contact us at hello@kinvoy.co.uk and we will review your case individually.

What payment methods do you accept?

Accepted Answer

We accept all major credit and debit cards (Visa, Mastercard, American Express) via Stripe, our PCI-DSS compliant payment processor. We do not store your card details — all payment information is held securely by Stripe.

Will my subscription automatically renew?

Accepted Answer

Yes. Subscriptions renew automatically at the end of each billing period. You will receive an email reminder before renewal. You can cancel at any time from your Account Settings to prevent the next renewal.

How does Kinvoy protect my personal data?

Kinvoy is operated by Project Freelance Limited (trading as Kinvoy), registered in England and Wales. We comply fully with the UK General Data Protection Regulation (UK GDPR) and the Data Protection Act 2018. All data is stored on servers located within the UK/EEA. We use encryption, access controls, and regular security audits to protect your information.

Who can see my estate data?

Only you and the collaborators you explicitly invite can access your estate data. Kinvoy staff do not access your estate content unless you specifically request support and grant temporary access. Our full data access policy is set out in our Privacy Policy and Data Processing Agreement.

Can I request deletion of my data?

Accepted Answer

Yes. Under UK GDPR Article 17 (the right to erasure), you can request deletion of all your personal data at any time. You can do this from your Account Settings page, or by emailing hello@kinvoy.co.uk. Deletion removes your account, all estate data, uploaded documents, and all associated records from our systems.

Question 27

Does Kinvoy share my data with third parties?

We share data only with the sub-processors necessary to operate the service: our cloud hosting provider, our email delivery service (Resend), and our payment processor (Stripe). We never sell your data or share it with advertisers. A full list of sub-processors is published in our Data Processing Agreement.

Is Kinvoy GDPR compliant?

Yes. Kinvoy is designed to be fully compliant with the UK GDPR and the Data Protection Act 2018. We maintain a Data Processing Agreement, a Privacy Policy, and a Cookie Policy, all of which are publicly available on our website. We are registered with the Information Commissioner's Office (ICO) under registration number CSN1020962.

How do I sign in to Kinvoy?

Kinvoy uses secure OAuth authentication via the Manus platform. Click 'Go to Portal' on the homepage and you will be guided through the sign-in process. No separate password is required — authentication is handled securely through your existing Manus account.

Question 30

How do I update my account details?

Accepted Answer

Your display name and email address are managed through your Manus account. To update billing information or manage your subscription, visit the Account Settings page inside the Kinvoy portal.

Question 31

What happens to my data if I stop using Kinvoy?

Accepted Answer

If your subscription lapses, your account enters a read-only state for 30 days. During this period you can log in and download your documents. After 30 days, your data is permanently deleted from our servers. We will send email reminders before deletion occurs.

I am having trouble signing in. What should I do?
