1. About this statement
Project Freelance Limited is committed to making Kinvoy accessible to as many people as possible, including those with disabilities, impairments, or situational limitations. We want everyone who needs to manage next-of-kin responsibilities after bereavement to be able to use our service without barriers.
This accessibility statement explains how accessible Kinvoy is, what we know is not fully accessible, and how you can get help or report problems. We review and update this statement whenever we make significant changes to the service.
We aim to meet the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) 2.1 Level AA standard. These guidelines explain how to make web content more accessible to people with disabilities. Conformance with WCAG 2.1 AA is also the standard referenced in the Public Sector Bodies (Websites and Mobile Applications) Accessibility Regulations 2018. Although Kinvoy is a private-sector product, we voluntarily adopt this standard as best practice.
2. Compliance status
Kinvoy is partially compliant with WCAG 2.1 Level AA. The known non-compliances and exemptions are listed in Section 4. We are actively working to address each one.
| Area | Status | Notes |
|---|---|---|
| Keyboard navigation | Compliant | All interactive elements are reachable by keyboard. Focus rings are visible. |
| Colour contrast (text) | Compliant | Body text and headings meet the 4.5:1 minimum contrast ratio against their backgrounds. |
| Screen reader compatibility | Partially compliant | Tested with NVDA on Chrome and VoiceOver on Safari. Some complex data tables lack full ARIA labelling. |
| Images and icons | Compliant | Decorative images have empty alt attributes. Informational images have descriptive alt text. |
| Forms and error messages | Compliant | All form inputs have visible labels. Error messages are associated with their inputs via aria-describedby. |
| Document uploads (PDF) | Partially compliant | Uploaded PDFs are stored and served as-is. We cannot guarantee third-party documents are accessible. |
| Responsive design | Compliant | The service is usable at 320 px width and supports 400% text zoom without loss of content. |
| Motion and animation | Compliant | Animations respect the prefers-reduced-motion media query. |
| Timeout warnings | Not tested | Session timeout behaviour has not yet been formally tested against WCAG 2.1 criterion 2.2.1. |
3. Technical information
Kinvoy relies on the following technologies for conformance with WCAG 2.1 AA. If your browser or assistive technology does not support these, some features may not work as expected.
Supported technologies
The service is built with HTML5, CSS3, and JavaScript (React 19). It uses ARIA landmark roles, live regions, and descriptive labels throughout. The service has been tested on the following combinations:
| Browser | Assistive technology | Platform |
|---|---|---|
| Google Chrome (latest) | NVDA 2024.1 | Windows 11 |
| Mozilla Firefox (latest) | NVDA 2024.1 | Windows 11 |
| Apple Safari (latest) | VoiceOver | macOS Sonoma |
| Apple Safari (latest) | VoiceOver | iOS 17 |
| Google Chrome (latest) | TalkBack | Android 14 |
Technologies we do not rely on for accessibility
The service does not rely on JavaScript for any content that is essential to understand the purpose of the page. Core navigation and legal page content is available without JavaScript. The portal (authenticated area) requires JavaScript to function.
4. Known accessibility issues
Despite our best efforts, some parts of Kinvoy are not fully accessible. The following issues are known and are being addressed. We will update this statement as they are resolved.
4.1 Screen reader announcements in complex tables
Some data tables in the portal (for example, the estate task checklist and document list) do not have full ARIA column and row headers. Screen readers may not announce column context correctly when navigating table cells. We plan to add scope attributes and descriptive caption elements to all data tables by Q3 2026.
4.2 Third-party document accessibility
Kinvoy allows users to upload documents (PDFs, images, Word files) provided by third parties such as solicitors, banks, and government bodies. We cannot guarantee that documents uploaded by users or generated by third parties meet WCAG 2.1 AA standards. If you need an accessible version of a specific document, please contact the issuing organisation directly.
4.3 Session timeout notification
The portal session expires after a period of inactivity. We have not yet formally tested whether the timeout warning meets WCAG 2.1 criterion 2.2.1 (Timing Adjustable). We will complete this test and address any gaps by Q2 2026.
4.4 PDF export
The estate summary PDF export feature generates a PDF that has not been tested for accessibility with a screen reader. Tagged PDF output is on our roadmap for Q3 2026.
5. What we are doing to improve
We are committed to continuously improving the accessibility of Kinvoy. Our current programme of work includes:
Complete formal WCAG 2.1 AA audit by an independent accessibility consultant. Publish full audit report.
Test and resolve session timeout notification behaviour against WCAG 2.1 criterion 2.2.1.
Add full ARIA table headers (scope, caption) to all data tables in the portal.
Introduce tagged PDF output for the estate summary export so screen readers can navigate the document structure.
Include accessibility testing in the definition of done for every new feature. All new UI components are tested with NVDA and VoiceOver before release.
6. Feedback and contact
We welcome feedback on the accessibility of Kinvoy. If you experience any barriers, need information in a different format, or would like to report an accessibility problem, please contact us using any of the methods below.
We aim to respond to accessibility feedback within 5 working days. If you request an alternative format (for example, a large-print version of a document or a plain-text summary), we will respond within 10 working days.
Alternative formats
If you need any information from Kinvoy in a different format — such as accessible PDF, large print, easy read, audio recording, or Braille — please contact us at the address above. We will consider your request and respond within 10 working days.
7. Enforcement procedure
The Equality and Human Rights Commission (EHRC) is responsible for enforcing the Public Sector Bodies (Websites and Mobile Applications) Accessibility Regulations 2018 in England, Scotland, and Wales. The Equality Commission for Northern Ireland (ECNI) enforces the regulations in Northern Ireland.
Although Kinvoy is a private-sector service and these regulations apply directly to public sector bodies, we voluntarily adopt the same standard. If you are not satisfied with our response to your accessibility complaint, you may contact the Equality Advisory and Support Service (EASS) at equalityadvisoryservice.com or by phone on 0808 800 0082.
You also have the right to bring a claim under the Equality Act 2010 if you believe you have been discriminated against because of a disability. We encourage you to contact us first so we can resolve any issue directly.
